I photograph around the world, but my heart and home are in Dallas, Texas. It’s all about the background when it comes to taking a photo! When choosing the right location, you should consider your own personality as well as your vision. If you do this, you will be comfortable during the shoot, whether you are taking wedding photos or annual portraits. If you’re looking for ideas for your next photoshoot in Dallas, see some of my favorite places for photoshoots.

Deep Ellum Graffiti Walls

Deep Ellum is an energetic neighborhood east of Downtown Dallas that offers live music and delicious dining options. It has become a vibrant art scene in recent years with the 42 Murals project, which showcases local, national, and international artists’ work. It has a wall covered in colorful and inspiring street art and graffiti, making for a gorgeous backdrop for photos.

Lakeside Park in Highland Park

If you are looking for a quiet getaway from the busy downtown scene. Consider Lakeside Park. Complete with manicured lawns, gorgeous bridges and even a manmade waterfall, this area is just right for a lush photoshoot. It being well maintained makes it a smart choice for those who want an outdoor session that is more preppy.

White Rock Lake

If you’re looking for a beautiful natural greenery location for a photography session, White Rock Lake in North-east Dallas is the perfect choice. There are plenty of fields and forested areas to choose from, it’s perfect for family portraits or group shots. It is a great option for couple’s who are planning a beach or destination wedding but would prefer an engagement session close to home. It also has a stunning lake and dock, making it the perfect spot for lovely sunsets or golden hours.

Fountain Place

An architectural beauty plaza located in the Arts District of Downtown Dallas at the base of a glass, geometrically shaped skyscraper, it is unique and wonderful. Both manmade and natural elements collide, with bald cypress trees in circular granite planters surrounded by terraced pools of water. Under the shade of the trees, the area feels somewhat private, making it a wonderful choice for intimate engagement sessions.

Design District

The Dallas Design District consists of interior design showrooms, art galleries, fine dining establishments, and most recently, luxurious apartment homes. The exterior of which offers endless photoshoot opportunities. This urban block offers a variety of buildings with different textures, colors, artwork and architecture to choose from. It is a great location for commercial shoots as well as an edgy and fun-filled couples’ session.

Rockledge Park

A beautiful park boasts some of the best scenic views! You will have free range of both wooded and lakeside areas. Hiking trails make accessing more remote locations possible, where the underbrush is green and lush. Or carefully walk along the rocky ridges and cliffs surrounding the lake. Here you can capture incredibly romantic photographs, with the vast body of water and a sunset for a backdrop.

Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden

This location boosts an arboretum and botanical garden, it is rich in some of the most colorful plant life. A popular wedding venue, it also has gorgeous walkways, water features and unique architectural structures. It is always different depending on the season you visit, which should be factored in to when you book your photo session. I find the best time of the year to be spring, when the flowers are in full bloom (between late February and early April), although fall is also gorgeous.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

A home to some of the most beautiful untouched nature. The walking trails and open areas are perfect for photos, especially from spring to the fall. During the warmer months the area is lush and green, and almost ethereal. Meanwhile the fall brings out such amazing colors of orange and rust. This location is great for all kinds of shoots.

Southern Methodist University

A grand buildings and perfectly manicured lawns are breathtaking, with so many spaces to pose and wander. This location is wonderful both for a casual session or something more elegant. It would work as a wedding venue, a preppy engagement session or even professional headshots.
